A fire broke out this evening at the base of the Belfry of Bruges, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The flames, initially contained to a small area, rapidly spread upward due to prevailing wind conditions, eventually engulfing parts of the historic tower. Emergency services were promptly dispatched and remain on site as efforts to control the blaze continue.
